Today

I am sitting in the college compound where the forces are staying. Occupying the college's principal's room, my tanks are parked behind the room and through the window in front, I can see the beautiful mountain, which at present is occupied by our troops. Its a weird war. Keep the hills and ridges occupied if we have to remain safe. With hills surrounding us, it is fairly not possible to do that. So keep our presence on the highest points and keep vigil. Somehow, these miscreants sneak up the vacant places and fire all sorts of weapons at our locations. Rockets, mortars and small arms. In return we fire back with whatever we have, everything we have. This game is played almost every night. Two months into this fight, every night is sleepless, every day is hectic. Tough!!! but then, someone has to do it .....

  1. Doesn't the base have lookout points like Guard Towers or similar vantage points? I mean, its a pretty major base, right? Or maybe its just that I have been playing too much CnC Generals and making too many stinger sites for base protection that I expect such an arrangement for real life bases too :p

  3. Yea, and as far as I have heard, they say our troops aren't well trained in mountain warfare, while the other side has more than twenty years of experience for that.

  4. Well that aint very true. It's just a political statement made by these TV analysts. Almost every infantry unit taking part in this operation has served a number of times in either Kashmir or Siachin. So to say that troops are not trained in Mountain Warfare is nothing but Hot Air ....
Its not the terrain, its the particular area that gives them the advantage. They are mostly natives, or have been in this area for far more time than we have been. They know that area inside out. Since these operations are going on for quite sometime now, this advantage to the militants is also gradually diminishing. We know that areas as well as they do now. And the results are quite obvious now. Better than before.

  5. Yea, and would you agree with me if I said that Qari Zain and Turkistan are our biggest allies right now?

  6. Too early to say anything. U have to understand the psyche of these Talis, they do not do anything except when it is for money. Its obvious that This Zain guy has been given sh*t load of money by the govt to stay neutral. You may give him the status of 'Temporary Ally', and that i guess is good. Since now the forces will be able to concentrate on only one front. But we cannot rule out the possibility that an operation against this Zain guy may also go in, after the forces are done with Baitullah. After all, this Zain bloke is also a Tali...
