Courage Extreme

Let me take this opportunity to narrate an event that i am personally witness to. A couple of days back, we were ambushed by the miscreants from one of the heights in the area. Our troops were totally pinned down, so much so that we were not even able to evacuate our wounded. Anyone who even tried to approach the wounded, was also hit. We could not call for artillery fire or cobra gunships because of the close proximity of own troops. Situation was pretty precarious. The miscreants had a massive advantage of well prepared positions and height. A small detachment of force was dispatched to ease the situation, but that too was caught up in a fierce battle. The officer of this force was hit straight up with five bullets, some of which went through his bullet proof jacket. More reinforcements were called in. And a company of infantry moved quickly to the rescue. The 'Athra' as they are called, reached the spot and sized up the situation. After quickly appreciating the situation, this company started climbing the location under fire and soon cordoned the militants. The cool minded commanding officer of this brave company turned the tables on the militants in no time. Evacuation of casualties and the Shaheeds started off immediately. While the fight was still on, one of the militants ran out of ammunition, took out his grenades and rushed towards that position held by infantry troops. One of the soldiers saw the militant coming towards their position and decided to stop him from reaching there. This brave son of the soil got out of his cover and ran towards the militant. The militant on seeing him coming, threw a grenade at him, which landed at the soldier's feet, where it exploded and shattered his left leg completely, by that time, the soldier lunged at the militant and threw him on the ground with his body weight. He gripped on to the struggling militant and also called for backup. A lieutenant who was right behind the NCO, although wounded by the grenade splinters, quickly responded and reached the spot. He promptly put a complete magazine of his SMC, right through the heart of the militant.
The entire fight lasted for over 6 hours, in which all the militants were killed and the height was cleared. What impressed me the most in this entire episode of combat, was the devotion of this lone soldier, who when realized the intentions of the militant, got to his feet and without fearing for his life, grabbed him, despite being so badly wounded. This is what i call Courage Extreme Those reading may not even be able to fathom the amount of courage bravery required to break cover in a fierce fire fight, put one's life to risk, only so that one's comrades are not harmed. Seeing such brave people around me, gives me full faith and confidence that we will Insha'Allah be able to fulfill our mission and get this country rid of the menace of militancy. May Allah bless us all with courage and confidence to fight in this noble cause.
This brave soldier is at present admitted in hospital, recovering fast. I would request you all to please pray for him and also for all those who are fighting this war.

  1. Wow. I can't even bring my self to express the respect I have for this soldier in words. This is quite narrative. This increases my respect for Pak Army ten folds, and that's saying something.

Yesterday, I saw an interview of an Army General, forgot his name, who claimed, and truthfully, as far as my knowledge about TOWs goes, that the small warhead is pretty accurate, though he may have exaggerated it by saying that it's accuracy is correct to within a foot of the target, which is nearly impossible as the laser marker which guides the TOW can't be held that still. That aside, couldn't the M197 Cannon have been vital in suppressing the miscreants? Like as a distraction from the reinforcements?

  2. TOWs being used in all the operations are fired from aerial platforms i.e, Cobras. Its much easier for the Cobra gunner to be accurate since his sight provides massive magnification. I dont know how these Cobra gunners are doing it, but they surely are hitting things with a lot of accuracy. I for one, have yet to see a TOW miss a target ....

  3. What I meant to say was couldn't a Cobra supported the company of infantry with aerial gunning?
